University of Waterloo in Canada offer scholarship to IOI and IMO medal winners starting university in the fall of 2014.

Dear IOI Contact:

My name is Serge D'Alessio and I'm the Associate Dean in charge of Undergrad Admissions for the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo in Canada (faculty website - www.uwaterloo.ca/math). The purpose of this email is to inform you of our Michael & Ophelia Lazaridis Olympiad Scholarship that we have available to students who were medal winners at the IMO or IOI (either gold, silver or bronze) in 2013, or earlier, and who will be starting university in the fall of 2014.

This is a "full cost" scholarship that the Faculty of Mathematics is pleased to offer. This scholarship is open to all students (domestic and international) and all interested, eligible students are encouraged to apply. The application form is available online at: www.uwaterloo.ca/math/future-undergraduates/funding-and-awards/entrance-scholarships. The application deadline is February 10, 2014. The application form also applies to other Math Faculty Scholarships. Thus, if a qualified student is not successful with the Olympiad Scholarship they will automatically be considered for other scholarships.

The Olympiad Scholarship covers the following expenses for eight academic terms: full tuition, accommodations, a full meal plan, textbooks and also incidental fees. Eligible students need to apply to the Faculty of Mathematics and must meet our admissions requirements as well as our English language requirement (please visit: www.uwaterloo.ca/math/future-undergraduates/applying for more details). This will be an ongoing opportunity for qualified students for the next several years. In the past two years we are very pleased to have 8 medal winners in our Faculty. If you are aware of students that may be interested please feel free to pass this information along, or have them contact me directly.

We offer many interesting and challenging programs in Mathematics and Computer Science which will interest high calibre students. Most of our programs are offered in two modes of study: regular and co-op. In the co-op mode students will begin their first paid work term after completing two academic terms (8 months). Once co-op begins, students will alternate between study and work terms until graduation. Co-op provides students with up to 2 years of professional work experience which will allow them to see what awaits them in the job market. It also adds 1 year to the length of their studies, 4 years & 8 months instead of 3 years & 8 months as for the regular mode of study.
Some students who know they want to go to graduate school choose the regular mode since it takes less time to complete their undergraduate degree. In the end, it is a personal choice based on whether or not students see enough value in the work experience component. Academically, the co-op and regular modes of study are identical.

Apologies for such short notice. This is Brian from Indonesia. On behalf of Indonesia's team, I would like to announce that we are going to host open contests tomorrow and on Saturday. Hope you can encourage your students to practice further through these contests.

:: TOKI Open 2014 ::

TOKI, Tim Olimpiade Komputer Indonesia (English: Indonesian Computing Olympiad Team), for the very first time opens its final selection contests to some selected international contestants. The final selection, internally in Indonesia, determines the top 4 (four) students for IOI.

The contests are divided into 2 (two) sessions, each consists of 3 (three) batch-type IOI-like tasks, presented in English, to be solved in 5 (five) non-stop hours. Put it simple, it is very similar to IOI setting, only difference it is fully online. To help you participate at your comfortable timing, each contest runs twice.

Practice Session starts at start at 830 AM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7) on Wednesday 7 May 2014 ends at 830 AM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7) on Sunday 11 May 2014.
Contest Day 1 Run 1 starts at 830 AM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7) on Thursday 8 May 2014.

Contest Day 1 Run 2 starts at 830 PM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7) on Thursday 8 May 2014.
Contest Day 2 Run 1 starts at 830 AM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7) on Saturday 10 May 2014.

Contest Day 2 Run 2 starts at 830 PM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7) on Saturday 10 May 2014.
Result Announcement is at 830 PM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7) on Sunday 11 May 2014.

For inquiry please use scientific@toki.or.id <mailto:scientific@toki.or.id> (attention: William IOI 2011 / Ashar IOI 2010 / Brian IOI 2007), standby almost around the clock from Wednesday 5 PM until Sunday 5 AM (Jakarta Time, GMT+7).

Objectives of us opening these contests include but not limited to: (1) foster friendship between Indonesia and other IOI participating countries, (2) test Indonesia's scientific team capability in setting IOI-level tasks (3) test Indonesia's technical team capability in hosting IOI-level contests. As a matter of fact, Indonesia is going to host APIO 2015 and we are excited about it.

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to bring your attention to Codility Training Site ( https://codility.com/programmers ).
It is addressed to both, advanced programmers that train and take part
in various programming contests, and those that learn basic programming techniques.

Contestants can find a collection of 30+ (and growing) challenging programming tasks https://codility.com/programmers/challenges/
together with a discussion of possible solutions.
Less advanced students can find over a dozen (and growing) lessons covering basic programming techniques https://codility.com/programmers/lessons/ together with 30+ exercises.

All the tasks can be solved in 14 programming languages, and the solutions
are assessed on-line in the IOI style.

Please disseminate this information to those young students that could be interested in
training or learning programming.

Firstly apologies for the delay in writing this email. It was a pleasure for us here in Indonesia to host our very first TOKI Open. Thanks a lot to all your support. We did receive a good response despite the limited amount of time in preparation and publication.

There were in total 124 contestants registered: 40 going to this year IOI, 50 not determined yet whether going or not to this year IOI, 18 no longer eligible for IOI, 16 perhaps going to later IOI. And among those, 1 champion achieving perfect point, congrats to contestant registered as Mohammad Ishraq Huda from Australia.
